Common questions
Is life insurance taxable?
Yes and No, it depends. It falls within a persons estate and may be liable for inheritance tax, depending on the individuals circumstances on death.
Life insurance in trust?
I often get asked questions around life insurance and trusts. In simple terms, if you put a life insurance policy in trust it is no longer forms part of a persons estate on their death meaning that it will not be liable to inheritance tax on their death. I do assist clients in getting their policy in trust and it is normally free and straight forward to do so.
What are the benefits of life insurance?
- Financial assistance to a loved one on your death
- Can reduce stress of a loved one on your death
- Can cover the cost of your funeral
- Peace of mind that a loved one has some level of financial stability on your death
- Can be used as part of inheritance tax planning
As your protection advisor, I will explain everything to you and ensure you fully understand the benefits of any policy you take out.
Life insurance joint or single?
There is no straight forward answer, every client is different. Generally a joint policy is marginally cheaper than two single policies for the same amount of cover each. So normally two single policies is preferable, but where a clients budget is tight it may be the cheaper joint policy is the long term affordable option. It is my job to advise in these areas and explain the reasons behind any recommendation I make.
Do I need income protection insurance?
Most likely. Is it affordable and your main priority? Possibly. Without knowing the full picture it would be reckless to say yes. Income protection is a hugely valuable protection policy to have and in your time of need can take away the financial stress of becoming sick and no longer earning an income, allowing you to focus on your health and getting better.
Private medical insurance meaning?
Private medical insurance can cover many different aspects of assistance. Giving access to your own private GP, getting referals for scans to speed up a diagnosis, choice of private hospitals to use, quick access to surgery, every policy is different. As a protection advisor I identify your needs and wants from private medical insurance and find a policy that meets them.
Is critical illness cover worth it?
Yes. However it can be expensive. You need to consider why you want it and how much cover you require. If you have an income protection policy for example, you may not need as much critical illness cover, or if you don’t have any income protection you may want higher protection via a critical illness policy. It is all about finding the right balance in protection policies and ensuring you have the right amount of cover while maintaining a budget that is affordable in the long term.
